Pamela
Xing-Berman
Location sound mixer: Sound Designer
Hi!
Pamela here.
My interest in audio engineering started during my journey as a singer and a composer. I attended the esteemed Howard University where I majored in Jazz Vocal and then went on to receive a scholarship as a member of Hawaii Pacific University’s International Vocal Ensemble. During my time in Hawaii I got an opportunity to do a studio session with the Grammy Award Winning Producer Dr. Dre, which years later inspired me to leave a burgeoning career in restaurant marketing and management to pursue my passion for audio.
I was accepted into a Master’s Degree program for Audio Technology at American University. As one of the few women in the program, I along with another female scholar created the Women in Audio, American University Chapter. Women In Audio, provides a network for female engineers and was created to encourage more women to enter the field of audio. Our chapter was later sponsored and invited to attend SXSW, to represent the female minority in the field of Audio and Sound.
My passion for audio revolves around sound for film, television, and podcasts. Using my classically trained ear from my music background (refined while majoring in Jazz Vocal at Howard University) and my astute attention to detail (developed during my career working in restaurant marketing), I thrust myself into the professional arenas of location sound mixing, and post production sound design and editing.
I have been fortunate to work as a location sound mixer, and sound designer for some major industry leaders, as well as passionate indie artists/projects. My production work transcends what the job usually requires, and my sound design is crafted with absolute care and attention to detail. My wide range of professional opportunities, such as groundbreaking documentaries, award winning films, and critically acclaimed podcasts, have groomed me into the dedicated and passionate professional I am today.
